Components

  • Pie Crust

Ingredients

  • 2 9-inch pie crusts

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 1/4 cup flour

  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • dash of salt

  • 6 cups thinly sliced pared apples

  • 2 tbsp butter

Directions

  • Preheat Oven to 425°F.

  • Cut shapes or slits into top crust.

  • Stir together sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt.

  • Mix with apples. Turn over into pastry-lined pan; dot with butter. Cover with top crust which has slits cut in it.

  • Seal and flute.

  • Cover edge with 2-3 strips of foil to prevent excessive browning.

  • Remove foil for the last 15 minutes.

  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until filling is set.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Crisco

  • 1/4 cup butter softened slightly

  • 1 1/4 cup flour

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 cup water

Directions

  • Blend flour and salt.

  • Add Crisco and butter, blend with pastry blender until velvety.

  • Add water all at once and stir quickly with fork until it forms into a ball.

  • Roll out on pastry cloth, using plenty of flour, into a circle. Roll out only once!

  • For bottom crust, fold in half and then in half again, lift and place over pie tin, and unfold.

  • For top crust, make your pie filling, fill the bottom crust, then place top crust on top.

  • Use leftover crust/pastry for Bumble Bees recipe.

Notes

  • Pies will need two of these crusts, one for the bottom and one for the top.
